Assuming that you have an up to date computer that has the latest display technology that we are about to go over in the following paragraph, then this Tek-tutorial definitely a must read. What I generally mean by the latest display technology involves computer systems that fall in the mid-range to high-end category, computer systems that have HDMI,DVI and DisplayPort technology. If you’re of the curious mind and want to know how to correctly install your brand new HD monitor. Let’s get right to it, we are going install your new flat panel HD monitor the right way.
Before purchasing any type of hardware,in this case the HD monitor,make sure you have done your research and know what type of display ports are in the back of your graphic card. There’s HDMI,DVI,Display, there are some graphic cards still carry the much older display port technology the VGA. Make sure these same display ports are also on the monitor,usually there are located in the back of the monitor. Usually the manufacturer does a pretty decent job in labeling their display ports on the monitor.
Now that you’re located your display ports on the monitor and graphic card its time get our cables ready for connection,usually there’s defaulted cables that come with the monitor which is usually the DVI and HDMI cables. If you’re replacing an old flat panel monitor with a new one,you can still use the cables you already had connected to your monitor.
My instincts tell me if you’re reading this article you’re using a HDMI cable for connection since that particular display port is common with all HD flat panel monitors,lets begin connecting our new monitor shall we. Take the cable and plug it into the monitor first,on the other end of the cable connect it to your graphic card.
Once you’ve connected your brand new monitor to your graphic card you may begin to power up your system. You should see a Blue LED light come on the power button,that indicates the new monitor has made connection. Sit back and you should start to see the Windows logo appear on the screen. Now if you don’t see the Blue LED light and the light remains yellow that means something is wrong, more than likely you didn’t tightly connect the HDMI cable into either the graphic card or HD monitor. A simple remedy is to push the HDMI cable into either graphic card or monitor with a little force,this should clear up that issue.
On a quick note,once you have connected your new HD monitor try and download the latest device drivers for your graphic card,also adjust the settings to your monitor accordingly.
